In my workplace, I attended a session on managing burnout and improving mental health and well-being. According to Dall’Ora et al. (2020), burnout is a major health issue affecting adult nurses due to its negative effects on the provision of optimal healthcare services to service users. The session paved the way for improving my understanding of the appropriate measures for improving the mental health of my colleagues. The TED© talk offered an enabling ground for exploring and understating the significance of music and dance therapy in promoting the resilience of adult nurses (Kacem et al., 2020). Based on the presentation, I noted that music and dance therapy provides a basis for enhancing the body image and self-esteem of a person. These findings align with the capability of the therapy to address critical issues such as anger, chronic pain, phobia, and body tension. In line with these considerations, I learned about leadership strategies necessitating hospital leaders to motivate and boost the morale of adult nurses (Sfantou et al., 2017). The session boosted my knowledge of the role of appropriate leadership skills in influencing and promoting the performance of adult nurses. In addition, it created an avenue for using personalised strategies to boost my leadership capabilities. Based on the leadership considerations from the session, I will adhere to the NMC code in boosting morale and teamwork with my colleagues.

The skills, knowledge, and key considerations I noted from the session paved the way for conducting an elaborate assessment to interpret the issues affecting service delivery. The TED© talk offered an enabling ground for improving the mental health and well-being of others using appropriate self-care management strategies. I noted the significance of maintaining a healthy and strong work-life balance, proper dietary practices, and participating in physical activities in enhancing well-being (Ross et al., 2019). In most cases, adult nurses do not socialise with others effectively due to the prolonged working hours, excessive workload, and disenabling clinical environment. In line with these considerations, adult nurses require effective coping skills to improve their mental health and well-being.

The TED© talk creates a valuable learning experience for improving my leadership skills in the workplace. Sfantou et al. (2017) indicate that leadership skills contribute to the performance and mental health of others. On that note, a leader should realise the most appropriate self-care management strategies for improving the mental health and well-being of adult nurses. These strategies enable adult nurses to overcome the negative effects of excessive workload and burnout on their mental health. Adult nurses across the board have been experiencing the negative effects of burnout. Primarily, burnout is exhaustion, depersonalisation, and non-confidence among adult nurses due to long working hours (Dall’Ora et al., 2020). Due to the negative effects of burnout, the World Health Organisation (WHO) (2019) decided to include it in the international classification of illnesses. However, most healthcare regulatory authorities do not consider burnout as a considerable healthcare issue of concern. Therefore, adult nurses experiencing the negative effects of burnout require phenomenological therapies due to the inadequacy of promising biomedical perspectives (Hillert et al., 2020). This consideration arises from a clinical belief that burnout originates from the subjective experience of an adult nurse such as working night shifts and prolonged hours. As such, I believe that it is significant for hospital management to establish appropriate supportive care practices for nurses experiencing the psychological effects of burnout. At this point, the management of burnout shifts from self-based therapies to more effective and leadership-based strategies. For instance, hospital leaders should focus on the welfare issues and needs of nurses to motivate and empower them in delivering quality, safe, and timely healthcare services. As a leader in healthcare, I will promote the mental health and well-being of adult nurses in line with the findings from the TED© talk. The role I will play in managing and motivating others will create an enabling ground for using self-care management strategies effectively to improve my mental health and well-being (Brennan, 2017). On that note, I will have perfected in managing the mental health of nurses while motivating and empowering them to work collaboratively, which is essential in overcoming the emergence of psychological illnesses. The session has improved my knowledge and skills in leadership. I believe that there is no single approach to addressing burnout and the effects of prolonged working hours among adult nurses (Thusini & Mingay, 2019). Besides, I noted the importance of effective leadership skills in motivating and empowering others in the workplace. The use of music and dance therapy aligned with the fundamental considerations of transformative leadership in motivating, inspiring, and collaborating with others (Kacem et al., 2020). Fundamentally, transformative leadership supports nursing objectives, improves workplace safety, and encourages nurses’ performance. Cummings et al. (2018) provided a basis for understanding the significance of leadership styles in promoting the performance and well-being of nurses. In the systematic literature review, transformative leadership emerged as the most essential strategy for addressing burnout and the negative effects of prolonged working shifts among adult nurses. The success of this leadership style relies on its capability to promote inclusivity, empowerment, and ethical behaviours in the workplace. Another systematic literature review by Specchia et al. (2021) on the influence of leadership styles on workplace satisfaction confirmed the significance of transformative leadership. Therefore, transformative leadership plays a pivotal role in addressing burnout and promoting the psychological well-being of adult nurses.

The TED© talk has offered insights into the significance of motivating and empowering adult nurses while promoting their mental health status to foster their performance in the workplace. Although healthcare scenarios require multiple leadership styles and approaches, I acknowledge the significance of transformative leadership in motivating nurses (Collins et al., 2020; Asif et al., 2019). This leadership style is essential in addressing the negative effects of burnout and prolonged working hours and night shifts among adult nurses. Based on the TED© talk, I have developed a checklist on health and well-being for the group presentation. This checklist motivates and inspires my colleagues in the healthcare sector on the significance of observing the NMC code, promoting health and well-being, and collaborating with others. I believe the checklist will be an effective tool for maintaining resilience among nurses since I based it on the TED© talk. I will embark on supporting colleagues and promoting inclusivity when managing service users (Rosen et al., 2018; Mudallal et al., 2017). I will align my activities with the transformative leadership style to work with and motivate my nursing colleagues.

Conclusively, resilience is a fundamental consideration in the nursing world. It aligns with the objectives of the TED© talk I attended on working with and motivating others. As a promising nursing leader, I believe that resilience provides an enabling basis for addressing workplace stress and burnout due to prolonged working hours and night shifts (Ramalisa et al., 2018). As such, I focus on creating a healthy and inclusive workplace in my future clinical leadership. I will flatten the hierarchies in the nursing world to promote collaboration and communication among adult nurses (Harris & Mayo, 2018). The development of strong workplace relationships will create a basis for interpersonal and interprofessional engagements. My leadership skills will create a strong basis for maintaining resilience and teamwork in working with and motivating my nursing colleagues.
